Despite demonstrated success, the SWE (known as small or safe water enterprise) sector is drastically under-financed, limiting access to safe, affordable, and reliable water for an estimated billion+ people. New ways of financing and scaling SWEs need to be developed, deployed, or enhanced to accelerate progress in closing the funding gap to achieve access to safe water.

To address this issue, Safe Water Network is convening sector leadership to focus on "Concessional Loans" as a mechanism for attracting new financing to SWEs. Within this context, concessional loans refers to investments at below-market interest rates, with minimal currency risk and generous time frames.

The webinar convenes institutions, companies, and individuals interested in the intersection of innovative finance and clean water supply for underserved populations, and features expert discussions and practical case studies on applying concessional loans on the ground. It will also set the stage on innovative finance, presenting diverse perspectives from funders, implementers, investors, and water sector leaders on the lessons and opportunities for SWEs.

We envision this webinar as the launch of an ongoing Innovative Finance for SWEs webinar series. The regular events will take an in-depth look at innovative finance, from the perspective of financers, implementers, and thought leaders.
